Tom Cruise to reprise role in ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel
Tom Cruise will again play racing driver Cole Trickle in a sequel to the 1990 film ‘Days of Thunder’. Paramount has scheduled the sequel’s premiere for June 2, 2028. The film will be shot for IMAX screenings, Motor1 reports.
Return to Daytona
Cruise confirmed his involvement in the project in a video filmed in the garage area of Daytona International Speedway. In it, the actor will return to the role of NASCAR driver Cole Trickle.
The original film was set against the backdrop of the Daytona 500 race. Jonathan Levine will direct the sequel, while producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who worked on the first film, will return to the project alongside producer Tommy Harper.

Anne Hathaway’s role
Anne Hathaway will play a racing team owner and engineer. In Paramount’s synopsis, her character is described not as the protagonist’s traditional romantic interest, but as a professional associated with the racing team.
The first ‘Days of Thunder’ featured cars from the Winston Cup era. The new film may feature modern NASCAR Next Gen Cup cars with independent rear suspension, composite body panels and a steel chassis. How accurately the film will reproduce the cars’ technical specifications will become known after filming begins.
