Lucid recalls more than 27,000 Air electric sedans over overheating risk — Motor1
American automaker Lucid Motors is recalling 27,185 Air electric sedans from the 2022–2026 model years due to a risk of overheating in the low-voltage exterior lighting circuit. As Motor1 reports, owners of vehicles that have not yet received the software fix are advised to park their cars outdoors and away from buildings.
Problem with circuit protection
According to documents from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the exterior lighting circuit had an insufficiently reliable overcurrent protection system. This could lead to overheating of the electrical circuit.
The cause is linked to the software eFuse, a digital fuse that was supposed to cut power to the front lighting circuit before it overheated. According to the manufacturer, under certain conditions this mechanism did not always operate properly.
Lucid first recorded the problem in June 2023, when a service 2023 model-year Air caught fire; the fire began in the front-left part of the vehicle. Two more similar incidents occurred over the following three years. NHTSA also received four reports of smoke coming from Air sedans between October 2025 and April 2026. The regulator did not determine the final source of the problem, but did not rule out the front combination headlamp.

Update is already available
The manufacturer released a free software update, version 2.10.0, in July. It changes the eFuse activation thresholds so that the system shuts down the lighting circuit before heating becomes dangerous. The update is installed remotely on vehicles with cellular connectivity.
The NHTSA recall campaign is numbered 26V540000 and dated August 19, 2026. Lucid's internal campaign number is SR-26-06-0. The company began notifying owners ahead of the mailing of paper letters scheduled for October 16, 2026.
Air owners are advised to check the vehicle settings or the Lucid app to see whether version 2.10.0 or later is installed. If this cannot be confirmed or the vehicle does not have stable cellular connectivity, they should contact a Lucid service center.
