Due to bad weather, a traffic jam stretching for several kilometers has formed on the Kyiv–Chop highway

Heavy rain in the Rivne region caused flooding on a section of the M-06 Kyiv–Chop international highway near the village of Varkovychi. This resulted in a traffic jam stretching for several kilometers, and the police were forced to implement alternating traffic.

The heavy downpour that hit Rivne Oblast significantly disrupted traffic on the M-06 Kyiv–Chop international highway. The most difficult situation arose near the village of Varkovychi in the Dubno District, where heavy rainfall partially flooded the roadway. Drivers were forced to significantly reduce their speed, and traffic on a specific section could only proceed in reverse.

The Rivne Regional Patrol Police reported that officers are working directly on-site to ensure safe passage. They are directing traffic, monitoring the situation, and helping drivers safely navigate the flooded section of the road. According to eyewitnesses, the greatest difficulties arose between the villages of Hrushevycha and Molodove. One driver reported on social media that the road was submerged due to the river bursting its banks. He estimated that the traffic jam on the highway stretched for about 20 kilometers. Videos have also appeared online showing the flooded roadway and long lines of cars.

Due to the traffic congestion, movement in that direction slowed significantly. Some drivers had to wait tens of minutes—and in some cases even longer—for an opportunity to pass. The situation was particularly difficult for trucks traveling on the international highway.

The police urged drivers to exercise the utmost caution, avoid dangerous maneuvers, and follow the instructions of law enforcement officers directing traffic. Motorists were also advised to take the situation into account when planning their routes, if possible, and to be prepared for delays. As of 6:00 p.m., according to Ivanna Loiko, spokesperson for the Rivne Region Patrol Police, the water level had begun to gradually recede. At the same time, law enforcement officers continued to work at the scene, as traffic remained difficult and the full effects of the storm had not yet been fully resolved.

Such flooding can occur very quickly after heavy rains, especially on sections of road near rivers or in low-lying areas. As a result, even a brief downpour can lead to serious traffic jams and temporarily restrict traffic on one of the country’s most important highways.

The situation is currently stabilizing gradually, but drivers are advised to continue monitoring updates from the police and road authorities. If weather conditions deteriorate again, temporary restrictions or two-way traffic may be reintroduced on certain sections of the highway to ensure the safety of all road users. This was reported by the press service of the Rivne Region Patrol Police.

As a result of a massive Russian strike on the capital, a leased humanitarian warehouse belonging to the Ukrainian Red Cross was completely destroyed; it had stored over 320,000 items of cargo and equipment with a total value of more than 79 million hryvnias
