Kyiv will allocate 1.5 billion hryvnia for defense and 375 million hryvnia for payments to those mobilized

The Kyiv City Council plans to increase funding for Ukraine’s security and defense forces to 1.5 billion hryvnia, as well as allocate 375 million hryvnia for payments to mobilized residents of the capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this during a meeting on Thursday, October 1.

According to the mayor, the city budget initially allocated 1 billion hryvnia to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine; however, thanks to joint initiatives by city council members, the amount was first increased to 1.26 billion hryvnia, and a decision on further additional funding is currently being made. In addition, Klitschko instructed the council factions and the Kyiv City Council’s executive body to explore, within a month, the possibility of further expanding funding for the city’s “Defender of Kyiv” program.

At the current session, the council is also approving the allocation of 375 million hryvnias specifically for financial assistance to Kyiv residents who have been mobilized into the ranks of the Defense Forces. The mayor emphasized that city authorities must simultaneously support the army and ensure the functioning of critical infrastructure and the city’s vital services amid constant enemy attacks.
