The exact dates for the fall break in Kyiv schools have been announced
In Kyiv schools, it is recommended that fall break be held in late October through early November. The capital has already determined the recommended schedule for the 2026–2027 school year, including the period for students’ fall break.
According to recommendations from the Department and the Association of School Principals of Ukraine, the fall break is scheduled for October 26 through November 1, 2026. However, the final dates may change depending on the security situation.
In accordance with Resolution No. 847 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 1, 2026, the school year in Kyiv began on September 1, 2026, and will last until June 30, 2027.
Most schools in the capital operate on a semester system: the first semester will run from September 1 to December 23, 2026, and the second from January 11 to May 28, 2027.
Winter break is recommended to take place from December 24, 2026, to January 10, 2027, and spring break from March 22 to 28, 2027. Additional breaks are also planned for first-graders from February 15 to 21, 2027.
The last day of school in Kyiv is scheduled for May 28. At the same time, until June 30, schools may organize make-up classes to address learning losses, as well as individual and group counseling, project-based activities, educational field trips, and “knowledge clubs.”
The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that the proposed structure is a recommendation. Under martial law, the specific schedule and format of instruction may be adjusted depending on the security situation.
Earlier, parents identified the main shortcomings of school meals and shared their suggestions for the menu.
The expansion of free school meals has caused problems for Ukrainian communities.
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada amended the law “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2025” regarding financial support for the security and defense sector and addressing priority issues. Funds were allocated, in particular, for meals for students in grades 1–4 in all regions and for students in grades 5–11 in frontline areas.
Meanwhile, the government plans to expand the free school meal program to include all students in grades 1 through 11 nationwide starting in 2026.
