Starting July 22, Ukrzaliznytsia is raising fares on the Kyiv City Express

Starting July 22, fares on the Kyiv City Express commuter train will increase in the capital. Ukrzaliznytsia explains that the fare increase is a necessary measure due to the constant rise in costs for electricity, train maintenance, and repairs. 

In addition, the situation is complicated by the debt owed by the Kyiv city government, which has not reimbursed the costs of transporting passengers eligible for fare discounts since 2021—as of early 2026, the amount of the debt had exceeded 10 million hryvnias.

The updated fare will depend on the method used to purchase the ticket:

• 30 hryvnias — via the “Ukrzaliznytsia” and “Kyiv Digital” mobile apps;

• 34.20 hryvnias — when paying via “Kyiv Digital” validators or self-service terminals;

• 36.70 hryvnias — at “Ukrzaliznytsia” self-service terminals;

• 37 hryvnias — at railway ticket offices or directly from the conductor on board the train.

The carrier emphasizes that the fare for the circular commuter train will double, which is a moderate increase compared to other public transportation in the capital. For passengers who use this route regularly, special commuter passes are currently being developed that will allow them to save money on daily trips.

Following the fare increase on Kyiv’s public transit system, passengers began reporting unusual charges on their bank cards. Instead of the standard 30 hryvnias per metro ride, some people were charged 38 hryvnias, and in isolated cases, the amount reached 76 or even 90 hryvnias.
