Boombox played its first solo concert since the war began: criticism has emerged online
A large-scale concert by the band "Boombox" took place in Kyiv, marking the group's first solo performance since the start of the full-scale invasion. Thousands of spectators attended the event, but the concert also sparked discussion and criticism on social media.
Boombox played their first solo concert in Kyiv, with another performance scheduled for May 17. On May 16, the band performed at one of Kyiv’s largest shopping and entertainment centers—Blockbuster Mall. Thousands of spectators filled the entire area, and photos and videos of the crowd of fans went viral online.
Ultimately, Ukrainians criticized the concert due to the massive crowd, explaining their dissatisfaction by noting that such events pose a potential danger during wartime.
Users were also outraged that the concert took place despite the danger of large gatherings and the ban on mass events. Against this backdrop, people online also brought up the country’s elections, which had been postponed due to martial law.
Attendees of the Boombox concert were outraged not only by the large crowd. In particular, they expressed dissatisfaction on the social media platform Threads regarding high prices in the food court, smoking in the crowd, sound issues, and the concert’s delay.
Despite the criticism, there were many comments from Ukrainians who attended the Boombox concert and had a positive experience. Some users noted that they didn’t understand the hate directed at the band. For Boombox fans, the concert was unforgettable—something they’ll “remember for the rest of their lives.”
