Rumors about Meghan Markle’s role in ‘The Gentlemen’ discussed at season two premiere
Rumors about Meghan Markle’s possible involvement in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s series “The Gentlemen” were discussed at the world premiere of the Netflix project’s second season. Lead actor Theo James said he was intrigued by the speculation, Dawn reports.
At the end of August, media outlets wrote that Markle had allegedly been in talks for a role in the third season of the crime drama. This came after she and Prince Harry announced plans to return to the United Kingdom. Subsequent media reports suggested that the offer had allegedly been withdrawn amid a negative reaction to the speculation.
Actors’ and producer’s reactions
Giancarlo Esposito said that the appearance of a person with such high name recognition could be both a major advantage and a major drawback. Hugh Bonneville called the reports a brilliant marketing move and joked that he had suggested UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a role.
Co-creator and executive producer Matthew Read noted that Guy Ritchie has a tradition of inviting people from unexpected fields into his projects. According to him, interest in the potential cast shows the audience’s engagement with the series.

Season two plot
In the second season, Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James, tries to expand the criminal empire a year after inheriting the family estate and title. James told Reuters that the new episodes explore the impact of centuries-old landownership and great inherited wealth on a person.
Horniman works with drug empire heiress Susie Glass and her father Bobby, played by Ray Winstone. Filming for the new season took place, among other locations, at Lake Maggiore in Italy. Winstone noted that the series blurs the line between organized crime and the establishment.
The cast also includes Michele Morrone, Benedetta Porcaroli and British TV presenter Maya Jama. James said that actors have to adapt to Ritchie’s unconventional directing approach and depart from the written script. The second season of “The Gentlemen” will be released on Netflix on Thursday.
