New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert announces cancer treatment

New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert has announced that she is once again undergoing cancer treatment. The 65-year-old musician made the statement on Instagram, clarifying information following an interview with her husband and bandmate, drummer Stephen Morris.

Clarification on health status

Earlier, Morris told Rolling Stone that he had a health issue that prevented him from leaving the country for extended periods and described it as serious. Because of this, some people assumed that he was the one who was seriously ill.

Gilbert explained that the interview remarks had been misinterpreted. According to her, Morris is well, while she is “living with cancer,” like many other people. The musician thanked people for their well wishes and asked for privacy as she continues treatment. The Guardian reports.

Role in New Order

Gilbert joined New Order almost from the beginning of the band, which was formed from Joy Division after the death of frontman Ian Curtis. She played keyboards and guitar and took part in work on all New Order albums from the debut Movement through Get Ready, released in 2001.

In 2007, the musician successfully underwent treatment for breast cancer. After a ten-year break, she returned to New Order’s live lineup and participated in recording the band’s latest album, Music Complete, released in 2015.

In November, New Order is due to embark on a tour of South America. Gilbert and Morris will be replaced by guest musicians at these concerts. That same month, the band is due to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
