The 2026 Emmy Awards Announced the Winners of the Major Television Categories
The 78th Emmy Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles on the night of September 15. Actors, directors, and screenwriters received awards for their work on the best series, miniseries, and television programs.
Among the acting awards, Matthew Rhys received several honors. He won Best Actor in a Miniseries for his role as Nyle Jarvis in *The Beast Within* and was also named Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Mayor Tom Loftis in *Widow’s Cove*.
In the female categories, the top honors went to Jean Smart for “The Tactics,” Ria Sehorn for “The One,” and Sally Field for her role in “Stranger Things.” Among the supporting actresses, Kate O’Flynn (“Widow’s Cove”) and Allison Janney (“The Diplomat”) were recognized.
“Widow’s Cove” was the big comedy winner of the night—the series took home awards for Best Comedy Series, Directing, and Writing. In the drama category, “Pitt” was named Best Series, and Sol Metzstein won the award for Best Direction in a Drama Series for “Slow Horses.”
Other winners included “DTF St. Louis” in the miniseries or anthology category, “The Traitors” as Best Competitive Reality Show, and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in the variety show category.
Vince Gilligan also received two awards for his work on *The One*—for writing and directing a drama series.

Italian director Luca Guadagnino presented the first part of the documentary *Joie de Vivre*, dedicated to Bernardo Bertolucci, at the Venice Film Festival in Italy. According to the director, the seven-hour film was born out of his love for the 20th-century filmmaker, known for *Last Tango in Paris* and *The Last Emperor*.
