Mitch Malloy Performs Van Halen Song With Michael Anthony — Rolling Stone
In Las Vegas on September 20, singer Mitch Malloy performed Van Halen’s Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love with Michael Anthony. The performance took place during the Vegas Rocks! Magazine Music Awards. Former Guns N’ Roses guitarists Tracii Guns and Gilby Clarke, former Slaughter drummer Blas Elias, and former Journey vocalist Jeff Scott Soto were also on stage.
Audition for Van Halen
As Rolling Stone reports, Malloy auditioned for Van Halen in 1996. According to him, it was successful: the band members told him he had gotten the job, and Eddie Van Halen congratulated the musician.

Several weeks later, Van Halen appeared with David Lee Roth at the MTV Video Music Awards without informing Malloy in advance. He decided not to join the band and sent a letter formally declining the offer. Gary Cherone of Extreme later became Van Halen’s vocalist.
Performance with Anthony
After the concert, Malloy wrote on Facebook that he was glad to see Anthony again and to perform with him in front of an audience this time. Van Halen has not existed in any lineup since the end of its 2015 tour. Anthony performed on the recent Best of All Worlds tours with Sammy Hagar, guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Kenny Aronoff. According to the publication, no continuation of these performances was planned after the residency at Park MGM.
