Festivals, concerts and a drive-in cinema to take place in Cyprus on September 11–13 — Cyprus Mail

From September 11 to 13, Cyprus will host arts, gastronomic and traditional village festivals, concerts, a party featuring hits from the 1980s and 1990s, and a drive-in cinema screening. Cyprus Mail reports on the cultural events programme in various cities and villages across the island.

Festivals in Nicosia and villages

The 12th Xarkis Festival will take place in the village of Kalavasos in the Larnaca region from September 11 to 13. Its programme includes workshops, contemporary performances, screenings, traditional crafts, botanical creations and activities for visitors of all ages.

Antama Fest, dedicated to Greek Cypriot panayiri traditions, will be held in the Nicosia Municipal Gardens on September 12–13. The organisers have announced live performances by local artists, dances, creative workshops and discussions on music, traditions and culture.

The 7th International Festival will also begin in Nicosia and run until November 1. The programme will open with Mario Banushi's production Goodbye Lindita, which will be staged at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on September 12 and 13. The performance explores themes of loss, memory and death.

The fifth food festival will take place in the village of Astromeritis from September 11 to 13, featuring street food, live music, DJ sets, dance performances and children's activities. A Cretan and folk evening is scheduled for the first day, while Vasiliki Hadjiadamou and Sotiris Petsas will perform on the final day.

Cinema and music programme

On September 12, the Idalion Classic Car Club will hold a drive-in cinema evening in Dali. The action film Gone in 60 Seconds is scheduled to be screened in the Idalion Lyceum car park, starting at approximately 19:30. On the same day, the Psematismenos Cultural Centre will host an open-air disco with music from the 1980s and 1990s.

The 27th Constantia Summer Cinema Marathon will conclude in Nicosia on September 13: It Was Just An Accident will be screened at the open-air cinema on Saturday, and The Life of Chuck on Sunday. In addition, Greek singer Natasa Theodoridou will perform at the Pattihio Amphitheatre in Larnaca on September 11–12, while Blockhead, ProleteR and Arms and Sleepers will play at Maze Venue in Limassol on September 12.

Traditional village celebrations

The first Simou AgroFest will take place in Simou on September 12, featuring presentations of Cypriot products, agricultural demonstrations, workshops and live music. On the same day, Meniko village square will host the seventh trahana and halloumi festival, with tastings, a demonstration of trahana preparation and an exhibition of Cypriot crafts.

The sixth grape harvest festival will be held in the village of Panayia on September 13. The programme includes a demonstration of traditional harvesting involving donkeys, grape stomping, zivania distillation, Cypriot music and dancing, as well as stalls selling grape products.
