Traditional oral poetry workshop to be held in Cyprus
A three-hour workshop dedicated to tsiattista, the Cypriot tradition of improvised oral poetry, will be held in Pera Chorio, Nicosia, Cyprus, on September 19. The session will be led by award-winning ethnomusicologist Dr Nicoletta Demetriou and organised by Anasa Cyprus.
Poetic duels and verse
Greek-speaking participants will be introduced to the art of tsiattista and traditional poetic duels, which are deeply rooted in Cyprus's history and traditions. The programme includes an introduction to fifteen-syllable verse, listening to characteristic examples and writing their own tsiattista.

According to the Cyprus Mail, the workshop is open to participants of any skill level. No prior experience in poetry or writing is required. The organisers note that those interested need only a desire to become acquainted with a living Cypriot tradition that continues to develop through the voices of its bearers.
Time, venue and registration
The event will take place at the Eleni Petropoulou Hall in Pera Chorio on September 19 from 11:00 to 14:00. Participation costs €35 and includes drinks and snacks. Advance online registration is required to attend.
