In western Ukraine, storage facilities are being set up for evacuated museum collections
New storage facilities are being established in Ukraine to preserve museum collections and cultural artifacts that are being evacuated from frontline regions. They will be located in the western regions of the country, though the exact locations are not being disclosed for security reasons.
This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna.
According to her, such facilities are of strategic importance for the protection of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, so information about their locations remains confidential.
Berezhna also noted that this year the government approved a decision on the mandatory evacuation of museum exhibits from the state museum collection from territories located within 50 kilometers of the front line.
In addition to evacuating these treasures, the state is working to restore damaged cultural sites. To this end, the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund was established, through which international partners can finance the restoration of monuments and cultural institutions.
Currently, the fund has already accumulated nearly 5 million euros. The first restoration projects are planned to be presented in the near future at an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine.
As a reminder, Russia attacked the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire.
Prior to that, Russian drones struck the Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in injuries.
