A Ukrainian pianist participated in the Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland for the first time
Roman Fedyurko, a 22-year-old pianist, passed an international competitive selection process and became the first representative of the Ukrainian piano school to be invited to the Verbier Festival Academy—an educational program of one of Switzerland’s most prestigious classical music festivals.
This year, out of 2,425 applicants from around the world, only 227 musicians were selected for the festival’s programs, and Roman is the only Ukrainian performer among them.
Since 2021, the pianist has been studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria in the class of Professor Milana Chernyavska. The musician notes that participating in the academy is an opportunity for him to promote Ukrainian culture and, in particular, the work of composer Levko Revutsky. In addition, in May, Fedyurko advanced to the finals of the 18th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition, where he will perform in Israel in September alongside the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ukrainian Oksana Lyniv became the first woman to conduct a Swiss orchestra at a concert dedicated to the UN’s anniversary. The event took place at Victoria Hall in Geneva.
Oksana Lyniv was named “Best Conductor of 2020” by the opera magazine “Oper!Das Magazin.”
