In the Ukrainian version of the movie *Spider-Man: A Brand-New Day*, a scene featuring a song by Russian singer Monetochka was removed. This decision was made following a wave of outrage among Ukrainian viewers.
After the new Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland and Zendaya hit theaters, Ukrainians noticed that the international version of the film featured the song “Monopoly” by Russian singer Monetochka (Elizaveta Girdimova). Information about the track was also included in the end credits.
The appearance of a Russian song in a Hollywood film sparked lively discussion on social media. Users stated that even the singer’s anti-war stance does not change their attitude toward the use of Russian cultural content during a full-scale war.
One viewer reported that she contacted the “Planeta Kino” theater chain to find out whether the controversial scene remained in the Ukrainian dub.
According to her, representatives of the cinema chain replied that they had also contacted the distributor for an official clarification.
Later, “Planeta Kino” confirmed that the segment featuring Monetochka’s song had been removed from the Ukrainian version of the film.
Audience members who had already seen the film also confirmed that the scene was missing.
“I just left the movie—the song isn’t there,” wrote one user.
However, some Ukrainians noted that the very fact that a Russian song was used in the original version of the film remains unacceptable to them.
“The fact that they cut it out, of course, is cool. But it doesn’t change the fact that a Russian song was used. I won’t be going,” reads one of the comments.
