Neon to release SCP Foundation film under CC BY-SA license — The Verge

Film company Neon has announced work on a film based on the SCP Foundation, which it plans to release in theaters in 2027. The studio has committed to distributing the film under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike, or CC BY-SA, license, The Verge reports.

Film licensing

Neon contacted the SCP Foundation Wiki team in advance and stated its intention to comply with the terms of the CC BY-SA license. The company provided no other details about the upcoming film beyond the licensing terms and the planned theatrical release in 2027.

The SCP community’s position

The administrative team of the SCP Foundation Wiki stated that wiki staff and community members appreciate Neon’s communication, its commitment to complying with license requirements, and the principle of collaboration that underlies the SCP Foundation project.

At the same time, Neon’s film will not have the status of an official SCP Foundation project. Wiki staff are not involved in screenwriting or production, will not receive compensation, and the team’s official position does not provide support for such adaptations.
