Netflix postpones Gary Glitter series over new legal information — Rolling Stone

Netflix has indefinitely postponed the premiere of the three-part documentary series Hunting Gary Glitter about British glam rock musician Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd. The streaming service also removed the project’s trailer from YouTube. As Rolling Stone reports, the company explained the decision by the emergence of new legal information.

Premiere postponed without a new date

A Netflix representative confirmed in a statement to Variety that the delay was related to legal information the company had recently learned about. He provided no details. The first trailer for the series was released a week before the release was postponed, and the premiere had been scheduled for October 14. Netflix has not announced a new release date.

Series content and court cases

Hunting Gary Glitter is directed by Sebastian Smith. The trailer announced interviews with investigative journalists, police investigators, tabloid photographers and people who helped make information about Gadd public. The series was also set to cover his travels in Cuba, Cambodia and Vietnam.

In 1999, Gadd was convicted of possessing child pornography. After serving time in a Vietnamese prison in 2006, he was convicted again in 2015 of sexually abusing three girls and sentenced to 16 years in prison. He was released in 2023 but was shortly afterward imprisoned again for violating the terms of his probation, the nature of which the source does not specify.

In 2026, Gadd was also charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and three counts of indecent assault on a 14-year-old girl. According to the victims, the alleged assaults took place between 1978 and 1981. The trial in this case is ongoing.
