Nominees for the 2026 Dovzhenko Award Have Been Announced
The nominees for the 2026 Oleksandr Dovzhenko State Prize have been announced. The list includes six creative works—both documentaries and feature films. The nominees include directors, screenwriters, and large creative teams.
The Committee for the Oleksandr Dovzhenko State Prize of Ukraine has released the list of nominees vying for the award in 2026. This is one of the highest honors in the field of Ukrainian cinema.
According to the State Film Agency, six works have been nominated for the award this year—ranging from documentaries to feature-length fiction films. The list includes both individual directors and large creative teams. Among the nominees is Taras Tomenko, a director and screenwriter nominated for his documentary *A Sentimental Journey to the Planet of Parajanov*.
Also among the nominees is the creative team behind the film “Malevich”: Anna Palenchuk, Daria Onishchenko, Tetiana Filevska, Maria Kael, and Vitalii Azhnov. Also on the list is director Oleksandr Zhovna, nominated for the feature film “Sashenka.”
Among the documentary works is the film “Songs of the Slowly Burning Earth.” It was created by a team consisting of Olga Zhurba, Volodymyr Usyk, Vyacheslav Tsvetkov, Mykhailo Liubarskyi, and Yaroslav Tatarchenko. Another nomination is for the feature film “The Weary.” It was created by director Yuriy Dunay and screenwriter Solomiya Tomashchuk.
The documentary “Flowers of Ukraine” has also been nominated for the award. It was produced by Adelina Borets, Gleb Lukyanets, and Natalia Gzhegozek. “The Committee for the Oleksandr Dovzhenko State Prize of Ukraine has published a list of nominees for the prestigious award in 2026,” the statement reads. The Dovzhenko Prize traditionally honors the finest works of Ukrainian cinema and brings together both renowned artists and emerging talents in the industry each year.
