The last film starring Ruslana Pysanka will be screened at the Locarno Film Festival

The Ukrainian mystical drama *Demons*, directed by Natalka Vorozhbit and featuring Ruslana Pysanka in her final major role, has been selected for the competition program of the 79th Locarno International Film Festival (Switzerland). The press office of the film company “Arthouse Traffic” announced that the film’s world premiere will take place from August 5 to 15.

The film was selected for the Concorso Cineasti del Presente section, which features first and second feature-length works by directors.

The film’s events unfold shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the story, the heroine Nina, played by Ruslana Pysanka, takes in a Russian man who calls himself a writer. Later, in the mystical lands of Poltava Oblast, she begins to discover her lover’s true nature.

According to Natalka Vorozhbit, the role in *Demons* was one of the most powerful in Pysanka’s acting career.

“Ruslana was an extraordinarily talented, profound actress and a true star. I believe that in *Demons* we managed to capture the true scope of her acting talent on screen,” the director noted.

At the time of Ruslana Pysanka’s death in the summer of 2022, about 90% of the scenes featuring her had been filmed. Afterward, the creative team reimagined the final scenes and completed the film, preserving the director’s original vision and honoring the actress’s memory.

“Demons” is the second feature film by Natalka Vorozhbit, known for the film “Bad Roads,” as well as for her screenwriting work on the films “Cyborgs,” “The Wild Field,” and as the showrunner for the series “Catching Kaidash.”

The film was produced as a co-production between Ukraine and Poland with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency and the Polish Film Institute. The film will be released in Ukrainian theaters on March 18, 2027.
