Space.com featured the characters from the HBO series "Lights"
HBO is preparing to premiere the series *Lanterns*, based on the DC Comics about the Green Lantern Corps. The main characters will be veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and rookie John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. The project’s creators are Chris Mandi, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof, according to Space.com.
Hal Jordan first appeared in the 1956 comic book *Showcase* No. 22. In the classic story, he was a test pilot chosen by the Power Ring to succeed the mortally wounded Green Lantern Abin Sur. In the comics, Jordan is mostly a hero, although in the 1990s he was associated with the villain Parallax. In the 2011 film *Green Lantern*, the character was played by Ryan Reynolds.
John Stewart made his debut in *Green Lantern* #87 in 1972. He was initially introduced as an architect and civil rights activist. After the New 52 reboot, the hero’s backstory was changed: he became a former Marine. For many viewers, Stewart is the most recognizable Green Lantern thanks to the animated series *Justice League* and *Justice League Unlimited*.

Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner, who in the comics was one of the contenders to succeed Abin Sur. The ring chose Jordan because he was closer, and Gardner later became a backup Green Lantern. Fillion has previously portrayed this character in *Superman* and the second season of *Peacemaker*.
The series will also feature Taal Sinestro, played by Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen. In the comics, Sinestro hails from the planet Korugar and was a member of the Green Lantern Corps, but was expelled after abusing his power. He later founded the Sinestro Corps, which wields the yellow light of fear. Space.com also mentions the Bounty Hunters—robots created by the Guardians of the Universe prior to the Green Lantern Corps; their specific role in *Lights* has not yet been clarified. Laura Linney has been confirmed to play one of the Guardians of the Universe.
"The Lanterns" is set to premiere on HBO on August 16.
