Singer and producer Laila! to release album on October 23 — Rolling Stone

Twenty-year-old singer, producer, and songwriter Laila! will release her second album, We’ll Never Be This Young Again, on October 23. The record will feature 12 tracks and will follow her debut album Gap Year, released two years ago.

New album and SZA’s reaction

As Rolling Stone reports, before announcing the release, Laila! let SZA listen to the completed album, and she responded positively to it. According to Laila!, she collaborated more with other musicians while working on the new material, although she created most of the recording herself as a producer and songwriter.

Along with the album news, the performer unveiled a new single and a teaser for the title track. She explained that while making the record, she became interested in themes of nostalgia, postcards, memories, travel, people, and places. The album cover features her portrait against a seashore backdrop and a mango stamp, a reference to her first single, Miss Mango.

Experience after the debut

After the release of Gap Year, Laila! toured, including performing with Kali Uchis and Mariah the Scientist. The artist also moved into her own apartment at age 19, and for the new album she recorded not only in her home bedroom studio, but also in studios in New York, Atlanta, and Paris.

Laila! noted that she retains creative control over the music, visual materials, and promotional campaigns. Among the activities that now help her focus on creativity, she named daily muay thai training.
