Singer SZA inducted into New Jersey Hall of Fame — Rolling Stone
In the United States, singer and songwriter SZA has been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. The ceremony at the Dream Live Performing Arts Center in the American Dream complex was hosted by actor Danny DeVito, Rolling Stone reports.
After the event, SZA wrote on Instagram that she had been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame and that the most important part for her was meeting DeVito. The actor himself was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2010.
Gratitude to the state and community
During the ceremony, SZA called the honor one of the greatest of her life. She was born in St. Louis but grew up in the Maplewood suburb in New Jersey. The singer recalled working at a pizzeria and a shoe store, as well as the community she formed in her hometown.

According to the artist, the experience of living in a small town where people know one another and take part in raising children influenced her attitude toward mutual support. She promised to carry this sense of community around the world and remember it when it comes to charity or supporting other people.

The New Jersey Hall of Fame has previously inducted Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, Paul Rudd, Toni Morrison, Tony Bennett, The Isley Brothers, Meryl Streep, Jonas Brothers, Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen and Francis Scott Fitzgerald. In her speech, SZA also mentioned Lauryn Hill, who attended the same school as her and is still not a Hall of Fame inductee.
