The court dismissed one of the cases in the Weinstein rape case

The scandal surrounding American producer Harvey Weinstein began in 2017 after dozens of actresses accused him of sexual harassment and sexual assault.

His reputation was ruined, and just a year later, Weinstein was arrested and charged. He was later released on $1 million bail and required to wear an electronic ankle monitor.

In February 2020, a jury found him guilty on two of the five charges and sentenced him to 23 years in prison. However, the verdict was later overturned due to procedural violations, and the case was remanded for a new trial.

It was reported today that one of the rape cases against Weinstein has been dismissed.

The case, which had already been tried three times, involved actress Jessica Mann. The initial verdict had been overturned, and on two previous occasions, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

On June 25, prosecutors announced the dismissal of the case following consultations with Jessica Mann, who declined to proceed with a new trial.

“I want to make it clear: we believe Ms. Mann’s testimony and consider her a credible witness. This has been an extremely grueling ordeal for her, and she has never wavered in her testimony, appearing before two grand juries and three jury panels over the course of eight years. We are grateful to her for her honesty and extraordinary courage,” the prosecutor’s office stated.

At the same time, Weinstein’s other convictions in New York and certain cases in California remain in effect.

As a reminder, in November 2017, more than 100 allegations were made public by women regarding sexual harassment by the producer, and the rape allegations involved about 18 incidents spanning the period from the 1980s to 2015.

Earlier, lawyers for Hollywood producer and Miramax chairman Harvey Weinstein filed a lawsuit against the City of New York, claiming that their client is being mistreated while in prison.

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was hospitalized on Monday, December 2, due to blood test results that raised concerns and required immediate medical intervention. Weinstein’s attorney stated that his client will remain in the hospital until his condition stabilizes.
