The Tallinn Fringe Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary with its largest program yet
The Tallinn Fringe Festival will kick off in Tallinn on August 18; this year, the festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary and will feature its largest program in history. The festival will run through September 18, with events taking place at venues throughout the Estonian capital, primarily in the cultural districts of Telliskivi and Kalamaa.
The program includes over 80 shows and performances featuring local and international artists. Audiences will be treated to circus, dance, music, theater, burlesque, and visual art projects, as well as stand-up comedy in Estonian and English. The organizers note that artists collaborate directly with venues, without a selection committee, which helps create a diverse program.
According to ERR News, the festival began as a street art event but has, over the past ten years, become an important stop on the Nordic-Baltic festival circuit. Performers who also appear in Sweden, Finland, and Iceland are coming to Tallinn; participants include artists from the U.S. and Iceland.

Organizer and blues and cabaret performer Kaija Ling said that the festival grew organically out of street art and that this year’s anniversary program is the largest yet. Pianist and storyteller René Paul emphasized that the festival offers the chance to see artists who don’t usually perform in Estonia. Comedian Sille-Kadri Simer encouraged visitors to attend several events, as the fringe format allows for exposure to various genres.
In Kalamaja, the Heldeke! venue will host English-language nighttime cabaret shows throughout the month. The program will also feature street performances and live music, maintaining the festival’s connection to its original format.
