An exhibition of illustrations for "Pinocchio" by 55 illustrators has opened in Tallinn
The Estonian Children's Literature Center in Tallinn opened the international "Pinocchio" exhibition this week, featuring original works by 55 illustrators from around the world.
The exhibition is on display in the center’s main hall and staircase gallery. The works are dedicated to the classic story by Italian author Carlo Collodi about the wooden puppet Pinocchio. Some of the illustrations recreate the plot of the 19th-century book, while others are poetic or free artistic interpretations.
The participants represent 20 countries, including Hungary, Croatia, Germany, Iran, South Africa, Ukraine, Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The artists used a variety of techniques—ranging from delicate watercolors and detailed drawings to contemporary illustration and graphic compositions.

The exhibition was curated by Estonian illustrator Viive Noor. According to her, the project is a small tribute from the international community of illustrators to the great writer who captivated them as children with the adventures of his wooden puppet.
Books about Pinocchio’s adventures have been published in over 260 languages and dialects. The story has also been adapted for other media, notably in the 1940 Disney animated film. The exhibition in Tallinn will run through November 29, according to ERR News.
