Taylor Swift adds Cleveland! to deluxe edition of album — Rolling Stone

In the United States, singer Taylor Swift added the track Cleveland! to the deluxe edition of the album Life of a Showgirl. In the lyrics, she mentions Cleveland Heights, a suburb of Cleveland where her husband Travis Kelce grew up. This was reported by Rolling Stone.

According to the publication, Swift responds to critics in the track and sings about a relationship with a man from northeastern Ohio. Kelce attended Cleveland Heights High School, where he played quarterback for the Tigers school football team.

Rolling Stone ranking

Rolling Stone compiled a selection of ten songs that mention Cleveland or its surroundings. First place went to Randy Newman's Burn On, which he recorded for the 1972 album Sail Away. The publication links it to the period when the Cuyahoga River was so polluted that it caught fire in 1969. The song was also featured in the opening credits of the 1989 film Major League.

Second place went to a classic 1969 song written by Robbie Robertson. Rolling Stone suggests that it most likely refers to the city of Cleveland, Texas: the lyrics also mention Houston, located 45 miles away. At the same time, the composition is often perceived as being connected to Cleveland, Ohio.

Rock and hip-hop

The list included Ian Hunter's 1979 Cleveland Rocks. A 1997 version of the song was recorded by The Presidents of the United States of America and became the theme for The Drew Carey Show. Huey Lewis mentioned Cleveland at the end of The Heart of Rock and Roll, while Michael Stanley Band dedicated the song My Town, released in 1983, to the city.

Other tracks include Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Cleveland Is the City, R.E.M.'s Cuyahoga, a Kid Cudi track from the 2008 debut mixtape A Kid Named Cudi, Scott Weiland's Missing Cleveland, and Townes Van Zandt's Pancho and Lefty. The latter composition is not entirely dedicated to the city, but in its lyrics Cleveland is the place where a character named Lefty ends up at the end of the story.
