Patek Philippe holds its largest Watch Art exhibition in Milan — Channel NewsAsia

Watchmaker Patek Philippe is holding its seventh Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Milan, Italy, from October 2 to 18. More than 500 watches, movements and objects are displayed across 15 thematic areas at CityOval, the former Palazzo delle Scintille in the CityLife district. This is the largest Watch Art exhibition in the company’s history, covering more than 2,900 square meters, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Exhibits from the Geneva museum

About 80 exhibits from the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva were brought to Milan. They include the brand’s first known wristwatch with a perpetual calendar, made in 1925; a World Time wristwatch from 1948; and a 1918 pocket watch with a minute repeater and a 30-day power reserve that belonged to American automobile manufacturer James Ward Packard.

A pendant watch presented to Queen Victoria at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851 and a pocket watch bearing a portrait of Pope Leo XIII are also on display. At the venue, watchmakers and craftsmen demonstrate enameling, wood marquetry, guilloché and gemstone-setting techniques.

Seven limited-edition models

For the exhibition, Patek Philippe unveiled seven limited-edition watches for the Italian market. The main new release was the platinum Reference 5978P-010, a perpetual calendar chronograph produced in an edition of 120 pieces. The calendar inscriptions are in Italian, while the strap features red, white and green stitching.

The company also released three white-gold models: a minute repeater with a red lacquered dial in an edition of five pieces, a watch with a green perpetual calendar limited to 100 units, and a white Calatrava model with a date in an edition of 200 pieces. The Aquanaut Reference 5167A-014 series is limited to 250 pieces. Two more World Time Minute Repeater models received cloisonné enamel dials depicting central Milan by day and by night, with five watches of each version.

Separately, 25 Rare Handcrafts pieces, including table and pocket watches, were created for Italy. They were dedicated to Italian cities, landscapes, art and traditional crafts.
