Jerusalem to host Engolement role-playing game about golems — Jerusalem Post
Engolement, a live-action role-playing game in which participants will play golems living in a shtetl, will take place in Jerusalem, Israel, on September 27 and 28. The event will be held by Theater and Theology and Theater in the Rough at the Mamuta art and research center in the Hansen House complex, the Jerusalem Post reports.
A choice between duty and change
Engolement is a LARP, or live-action role-playing game — a format at the intersection of gaming, improvisation, and theater. There is no traditional division between actors and spectators: participants act on behalf of their characters, interact, negotiate, and make decisions in real time.
According to the plot, a group of a dozen golems lives among people in a shtetl. Each character has a seal — a personal tablet bearing the words that brought them to life. During the game, a participant may speak only these words.

Due to an expected threat, the shtetl’s residents decide to build a defensive wall. The golems must choose between their duty to the community and their desire to find out what else they can become. Players will be given two and a half hours to resolve this dilemma.
The game’s creators
The original Hebrew version of Engolement was created by Lian Yedidya, Hila Meinrat, and Natan Skop. It was developed in collaboration with Aspamia LARP for the Roll of Destiny exhibition, held by Schechter Gallery in Tel Aviv in 2025. The exhibition aimed to introduce visitors to six games based on Jewish ideas.
Props were prepared for the game using geometric shapes, words on laminated paper, and diagrams with Kabbalistic aesthetics, as well as charcoal illustrations by Lianna Burmeister. The voices of the backstory characters belong to Annabelle Landgarten, Howard Metz, Yael Valier, and Natan Skop.
