Marina Vladi, the actress and widow of Vysotsky, has died in France
French actress Marina Vlady has died at the age of 89. A family representative announced the actress’s death.
She died “at home, surrounded by her loved ones and her pets,” her children noted, paying tribute to her “long, beautiful, and fulfilling life.”

The actress’s real name was Katerina-Marina Polyakova-Baidarova. She was born in France on May 10, 1938, in Clichy, to a family of Russian émigrés who had fled the 1917 Revolution. Starting out as a young dancer at the Paris Opera, she soon switched from a career in dance to acting. She landed her first role at the age of 10 in Jean Guiraud’s film *Summer Storm* (*Orage d’été*, 1949). Under the direction of Robert Hossen—whom she married when she was only 17—she starred in four films: *Scoundrels Go to Hell* (Les salauds vont en enfer, 1955), *Forgive Us Our Sins* (Pardonnez nos offenses, 1956), *You, the Poison* (Toi, le venin, 1958), and *Night of the Spies* (La Nuit des espions, 1959). Together, they were one of the most famous couples in the film world at the time.
In 1961, she played the lead role in Jean Delannoy’s film *The Princess of Clèves* (*La Princesse de Clèves*), based on the novel by Madame de La Fayette. Her role in Marco Ferreri’s *The Marital Bed* (*Le Lit conjugal*, 1963) earned her the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. In the 1960s, she collaborated with Godard on the film *Two or Three Things I Know About Her* (*Deux ou trois choses que je sais d’elle*); later, in the 1970s and 1980s, she appeared in popular comedies such as *Everyone’s Beautiful, Everyone’s Nice* (*Tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentil*) by Jean Yann and *Twist Again in Moscow* (Twist again à Moscou) by Jean-Marie Poire. In 1974, she starred alongside Philippe Noiret in Bertrand Tavernier’s film *Que la fête commence*.
The actress was married to the legendary bard and actor Vladimir Vysotsky from 1970 until his death in 1980. After losing her husband, she published a memoir titled *Vladimir, or The Interrupted Flight*.
