Private Bespoke Gloucester House space by designer André Fu opens in Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, China, the private Bespoke Gloucester House space created by Hong Kong designer André Fu has opened. The project at the Landmark complex in Central, opened on July 24 by developer Hongkong Land, is available to members of the Landmark Bespoke loyalty programme, Channel NewsAsia reports.
A space in Central
Bespoke Gloucester House is inspired by the history of the Gloucester Hotel, founded in 1932. According to Fu, the concept provides for a dialogue between the past and the present and reinterprets the atmosphere of the historic hotel, which was one of the notable meeting places for Central's business and social circles.
The space includes a reception area, library, Typhoon Bar, terrace, lounge and salons. The library was conceived as a living archive with cultural artefacts that connect the history of the site with the contemporary Gloucester House. Typhoon Bar was named after the bar in the original hotel; its design uses stained glass and sculptural lines inspired by the shape of traditional Hong Kong egg tart moulds.

Works in Singapore
This year, Andre Fu Studio marks its 25th anniversary. The designer's works in Singapore include The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Andaz Singapore and the refurbishment of Capella Singapore on Sentosa Island. The Fullerton Bay Hotel, which opened in 2010, was created by Fu as a contemporary colonial hotel combining historic and modern elements.
At Andaz Singapore, the designer drew on the culture of Singapore shophouses. The Alley on 25 dining space brings together a range of concepts designed in this style, while the rooftop Mr Stork bar is set among tropical greenery, paved surfaces and private teepees. During the refurbishment of Capella Singapore, Fu used teak, oak and rattan, as well as a palette of sandy, sage and mineral-grey shades.
Fu was born and raised in Hong Kong, moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 14, and later earned a master's degree in architecture from the University of Cambridge. He founded his studio in 2000. To mark its 25th anniversary, the book Andre Fu: A Designer’s Vision, dedicated to the designer's work and creative process, was also released.
