The Latsios Maritime and Cultural Museum in Polis was visited by 4,517 people in its first year of operation. Visitors included families, pupils, organised groups, as well as guests from different regions of Cyprus and from abroad, Cyprus Mail reports, citing the Polis Chrysochous municipality.
Maritime history of Cyprus and Akamas
The municipality described the first year of operation as an important milestone for the cultural institution. The museum aims to present the maritime history of Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean region, with particular attention to the Akamas area.
The exhibition is housed in four halls. The collections and themed displays tell the story of the sea's connection with the history and culture of the area.

Interactive exhibition
Visitors have access to interactive games, historical maps, photographs, videos, as well as virtual and augmented reality applications. The museum combines art, science and technology to offer an interactive experience for visitors of all ages.
With the help of exhibits and digital applications, guests can explore more than 30 centuries of Cyprus' maritime history and the role of the sea in the development of civilisation. The municipality also stressed the museum's educational focus: families and pupils made up an important part of its visitors during its first year of operation.
