John Malkovich to perform in Tel Aviv in satirical production

Actor John Malkovich is set to perform in Tel Aviv, Israel, on April 13, 2027, in the satirical theatrical and musical production The Music Critic. The performance is scheduled for the Charles Bronfman Concert Hall, also known as Heichal HaTarbut, The Jerusalem Post reports.

A satire on music criticism

The production was written and conceived by violinist and composer Aleksey Igudesman. It combines classical musical works, comedy and harsh historical reviews of them.

Malkovich will play an “evil critic” who speaks disparagingly about Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin. A live ensemble featuring Igudesman and pianist Hyung-ki Joo will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy and Sergei Prokofiev.

Third professional visit

In the finale titled The Malkovich Torment, the actor will read an actual harsh review written about his own career. The production previously toured Europe and the United States and was also released as an official album.

The 2027 performance will be Malkovich’s third professional visit to Israel. In July 2008, he was an honorary guest at the Jerusalem Film Festival, and in April 2013, he headed a production of the musical drama The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a Serial Killer at the International Chamber Music Festival in Eilat and at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
