In China, Arab and Chinese artists created a joint scroll — Dawn
In China, nine artists from Egypt, Oman, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, together with three Chinese artists, created a joint scroll, “Journey of Mountains and Seas, Journey into Song.” The creative trip took place in the spring of 2026 as part of the 14th Silk Road: Artists’ Rendezvous, Dawn reports.
Route of the creative trip
The participants visited the Forbidden City in Beijing and later travelled through the mountains and along the sea in Fujian Province. During the journey, the artists created individual works and worked on the joint scroll. The article describes the art expedition as a dialogue of civilizations expressed through five colours.

White space and the colour red
Algerian artist Yasser Amer studied the meaning of white in traditional Chinese ink painting. In Fuzhou, Chinese artist Zhang Qiuju explained to him that unfilled space in a composition is not emptiness but leaves room for imagination. The artists later exchanged paintings.
Egyptian artist Mohamed Sabri Bastawi Hassan chose red as the main colour of his work. In the painting “Tree of Life,” he combined Chinese red, ancient Egyptian writing and the Chinese lucky number eight.
