Writer Dong Xi receives Tengkolok award in China — ECNS
In China, writer Dong Xi received Malaysia’s Tengkolok friendship award for his contribution to literary and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia, ECNS reports.
Award presentation
The award was presented on Saturday during the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo. It was presented by the Han Culture Center Malaysia. Dong Xi became the ninth recipient of the award, which was previously also received by Chinese writer Liu Zhenyun.
Han Culture Center Malaysia President Guo Hing San, who holds the title of Datuk, presented the writer with a traditional tengkolok, a ceremonial Malay headdress made of folded embroidered silk. The award recognizes foreigners who have contributed to ties between Malaysia and China in literature, culture, publishing and translation.

Literary activity
Dong Xi, whose real name is Tian Dailin, maintained regular contacts between writers from Guangxi and Malaysia’s Chinese-language literary community. In 2023, his novel Echo won the Mao Dun Prize, one of China’s leading literary awards.
The author’s other honors include the Lu Xun Literary Prize, as well as the Shi Nai'an and Wu Cheng'en prizes. His works have been translated into several languages and published abroad.
