The Assassin(s) draws more than 1 million viewers in South Korea — Korea Herald

According to Korea Herald, the historical thriller The Assassin(s) surpassed 1 million admissions in South Korea three days after its theatrical release. Distributor Hive Media Corp. reported that admissions stood at 1.05 million as of Saturday morning. The publication noted that the film debuted on Wednesday.

Box office leader

On Friday, the third day after its debut, the film topped the South Korean box office for the third consecutive day. The leading roles in the film were played by Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho.

Historical basis

The Assassin(s) was directed by Hur Jin-ho. The film's plot is inspired by the 1974 assassination attempt on then South Korean President Park Chung-hee. The first lady was killed in the attempt. Korea Herald calls the shooting one of the most shocking events in the country's turbulent modern history.
