Carpenter to Play Ginger Rogers in Fred Astaire Film — Rolling Stone

Sabrina Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers in an upcoming biographical film about Fred Astaire, with Tom Holland set to take on the lead role. Rolling Stone reports.

Director Paul King also announced that Margaret Qualley will portray Adele Astaire, Fred’s older sister and dance partner. According to King, Fred Astaire left a significant legacy in dance cinema, particularly through his work with Rogers, while Adele’s stage work is far less known. He noted that no video recordings of her dancing have survived.

Film basis

The as-yet-untitled film has been in development for more than five years. It has the approval of Fred Astaire’s heirs, and its plot is based on Kathleen Riley’s biography, “The Astaires: Fred & Adele.”
