Nashville Airport in the US to Be Renamed After Dolly Parton
Nashville International Airport in Tennessee, United States, is planned to be renamed in honor of singer Dolly Parton. The airport’s board of commissioners supported the decision on Friday, CBC News reports.

The renaming idea was first proposed last year, but it gained greater support after Parton’s death last month at the age of 80. The singer’s fans also ran a social media campaign calling for the airport to bear her name.
At the end of last month, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee supported the initiative. Lee then said that Parton’s life was closely linked to the state’s history and that the airport, through which Tennessee welcomes the world, was an appropriate place to honor her music, generosity, faith and kindness.

After the vote, Bill Lee called the decision an important step in honoring the artist’s legacy and noted that she helped the world fall in love with Tennessee.
Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center, Tennessee, and grew up in Locust Ridge. At the age of 13, she performed at the Grand Ole Opry, and after graduating from school, she moved to Nashville to pursue a music career.
The timeline for the renaming procedure has not yet been announced. According to The New York Times, current airport rules do not allow facilities to be named after a person who died less than two years ago. The exact new name has also not yet been selected: the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority said it is working with relevant parties on how to properly reflect Parton’s name and legacy.
