Eiko Ojala's first solo exhibition opened in Viljandi
On August 15, the Rüki Gallery in the Estonian city of Viljandi opened the first solo exhibition by illustrator and artist Eiko Ojala, titled “Meele märkused” (“Notes of the Mind”). The exhibition will run through September 26, according to ERR News.
Ojala has created illustrations for National Geographic, Time, Le Monde, Politico, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. His first solo exhibition draws attention to a lesser-known aspect of the artist’s work and focuses on the interrelationships between space, form, and psychological states.

At the center of the series on display is a figure surrounded by geometric surfaces and forms that evoke institutional or clearly defined interiors. The bodies in the works seem to be submerged, bent, or pressed against surfaces that simultaneously support and restrict their movement.
The exhibition shifts the focus from narrative imagery to observing how the human-made environment and surrounding space imperceptibly organize bodies, direct movement, and shape a person’s inner world. The exhibition is curated by Lilian Hiop-Küttis.
