Chashma-1 NPP in Pakistan operated continuously for 427 days — Dawn

Unit 1 of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant in Pakistan operated without interruption for 427 days during its 18th operating cycle. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission said this was the longest continuous operating cycle ever achieved by a nuclear power plant in the country’s history, Dawn reports.

Record operating cycle

Chashma-1’s first unit has a capacity of 325 MW. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, which operates six nuclear power plants, also reported high international performance indicators for the unit.

The commission described the unit’s operation as safe.

WANO assessment

The commission said that in each of the first two quarters of 2026, Chashma-1 received a score of 100 under the performance indicator index of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). According to the PAEC assessment, this places the plant among the world’s leading nuclear power plants in terms of operational performance, reliability and safety.

PAEC linked the achievement to the technical training, discipline and teamwork of the engineers, scientists and personnel of the Chashma nuclear generating station, as well as compliance with nuclear safety standards.
