Amazon signs 20-year deal to supply 690 MW of electricity in the US — OilPrice
Amazon has signed a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy to supply 690 MW of electricity from the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Maryland, US. As OilPrice reports, the companies also concluded a separate retail electricity supply agreement to support Amazon’s operations in the PJM Interconnection regional power system, which covers 13 states.
Calvert Cliffs capacity
The Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant has two reactors with a combined generating capacity of about 1,790 MW. According to the publication, this is sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 1.3 million households.
The agreement covers 690 MW of total capacity, including 190 MW that Constellation plans to add through upgrades to the plant in 2030–2032. All electricity generated at Calvert Cliffs will continue to flow into the regional PJM grid.

Investment and license extension
The agreement makes it possible to attract more than $3 billion in investment for the modernization of the entire Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant. Constellation CEO Joseph Dominguez said that the agreement demonstrates how private investment can strengthen critically important energy infrastructure.
Constellation noted that the long-term contract provides the revenue certainty needed to consider extending the plant’s license for another 20 years. The company also plans to explore opportunities to develop new clean energy facilities at the plant site.
