Daewoo E&C expands nuclear and energy projects abroad — Korea Herald
South Korean construction company Daewoo Engineering & Construction said it intends to expand its international business in nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas projects and infrastructure. The company is exploring opportunities in Europe, the Middle East and developing Asian markets, Korea Herald reports.
Talks with Vietnam
Daewoo E&C Chairman Jung Won-ju held talks in Seoul with Hanoi Mayor Vu Dai Thang on September 8. The sides discussed cooperation in urban development, energy and infrastructure.
The meeting took place after Jung’s talks with Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung on August 26. During that conversation, Daewoo E&C expressed interest in planned Vietnamese nuclear projects, including in Ninh Thuan, as well as in the development of LNG terminals.

Indonesia and the European direction
The company is also considering increasing its investments in Indonesia. During a July visit to Jakarta, Jung proposed an integrated development model combining small modular reactors, LNG terminals, power plants and gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence data centers.
Daewoo E&C has operated in Indonesia since 1986 and has completed seven projects there with a total value of $540 million. In April, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Sinar Mas Land and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corp. on cooperation in developing the Bumi Serpong Damai city in Greater Jakarta.
Daewoo E&C also intends to use its participation in the Dukovany nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic to seek new opportunities in Europe, the Middle East and other nuclear energy markets. The company’s long-term strategy includes work with small modular reactors, nuclear power plant decommissioning, and combining LNG and power infrastructure with data centers for artificial intelligence.
