Financial Times reports new attack on Saudi Aramco refinery in Saudi Arabia
Financial Times reported a new attack on the Saudi Aramco oil refinery in Jizan, in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The facility has a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day and is an important oil refining hub on the Red Sea coast.
Report of the strike
As OilPrice reports, Financial Times, citing two people familiar with the situation, wrote that facilities in the country’s southwest were hit on Monday. One of the publication’s sources described the scale of the strike as similar to last month’s attack, which temporarily disrupted the facility’s operations.
Saudi Aramco had not commented on possible new damage at the time of publication. Those responsible for the latest attack have also not been identified.

Previous attacks and exports
Jizan is not the first target since hostilities resumed in summer between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis, described in the report as allies of Iran. In July, the Houthis attacked Aramco facilities in Jizan and Yanbu; smoke was then visible above the Jizan refinery. Another strike on Jizan occurred in August.
The refinery’s location on the Red Sea has gained greater importance amid disruptions to exports through the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia is sending more oil westward via the East West pipeline to Yanbu. At the same time, Financial Times reported that after the previous attack, oil shipments from Jizan fell significantly, while no exports from the refinery were recorded in August.
Aramco CEO Amin Nasser said last month that the previous attacks caused temporary disruptions but had no significant operational or financial impact on the company.
