Naftogaz purchased gas on the exchange for the first time in nearly a year
On May 14, Naftogaz Trading purchased natural gas on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange. This is the first such transaction since July 2025, the company reported.

The company purchased 200,000 cubic meters of June gas at a weighted average price of 21,667 UAH/thousand cubic meters (excluding VAT) or 26,000 UAH/thousand cubic meters (including VAT).
Prices for June gas in Ukraine as of May 14 ranged from 25,690 to 26,200 UAH/thousand cubic meters including VAT.
Gas on the exchange in Ukraine is traded at a lower price than in Europe. Because of this, the company’s return to purchasing on the domestic market is becoming a key factor in determining gas prices in Ukraine.
Previously, the company had offered natural gas for sale on the exchange. The return to purchasing on the domestic Ukrainian exchange may be linked to rising prices in Europe, making it more profitable to buy within the country.
Another reason may be the intensification of Russian attacks on Naftogaz’s infrastructure. In particular, as a result of a massive combined attack by Russia on May 5, the company lost part of its production.
In total, in 2025, Naftogaz Trading purchased 34.3 million cubic meters of natural gas on the exchange, and since entering the exchange to purchase gas in 2023—nearly 1.29 billion cubic meters.
