South Korean PM calls electricity supply key to megaprojects
South Korean Prime Minister Han Seong-suk stated that the success of three government megaprojects depends on the timely supply of electricity and the swiftest possible construction of a power transmission network. The Korea Herald reports.
Energy needs of megaprojects
At a government meeting in Seoul, Han Seong-suk spoke about an initiative aimed at national transformation through the development of semiconductors, physical artificial intelligence, AI data centers, and AI-based administrative innovation.
According to her, these areas require significant volumes of electricity. The prime minister also stressed that cooperation from residents is particularly important for building out the power transmission network.

Prices and respiratory infections
Han Seong-suk instructed government officials to closely monitor unfair market practices that could artificially raise prices ahead of the Chuseok holiday. She stated that inflationary pressure is increasing due to rising oil prices amid the renewed conflict in the Middle East.
Separately, the prime minister said that influenza and other acute respiratory infections are spreading faster than in previous years. She called on officials to secure vaccines in advance, as well as ensure timely vaccination and medical care for people with weaker immunity, including infants, children, and elderly people.
