Gas production is set to begin at a massive field in the Black Sea
OMV Petrom and Romgaz have completed the installation of an offshore production platform for the development of the Neptun Deep gas field in the Black Sea off the coast of Romania. The field’s reserves are estimated at approximately 100 billion cubic meters of gas.
The project encompasses the Domino and Pelican South fields, ten production wells, an offshore platform, subsea infrastructure, and a 160-kilometer pipeline to the Romanian city of Tuza. Six of the ten wells have already been drilled.
Commercial production is scheduled to begin in 2027. The project is expected to help Romania become the largest producer of natural gas in the European Union.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Berlin is interested in increasing natural gas supplies from Azerbaijan to further diversify its energy supply.
China has urged the Russian delegation to stop raising the issue of constructing the new “Power of Siberia-2” gas pipeline, which the Kremlin had hoped would replace the lost European market. Beijing will agree to the contract only on the condition that the price of the fuel remains at the domestic Russian level—about $50 per thousand cubic meters.
