Ghana forecasts higher petrol and diesel prices from September 16
In Ghana, from Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the average retail price of petrol may rise to 16.26 Ghanaian cedis per litre, while diesel may reach 19.07 cedis. The forecast was published by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), MyJoyOnline reports.
Fuel price forecast
According to COPEC's calculations, petrol will rise by 4.24% compared with the current average price of 15.60 cedis per litre. The organisation expects retail prices at filling stations to range from 15.44 to 17.08 cedis per litre.
The average projected diesel price is 19.07 cedis per litre, which is 10.23% higher than the current average of 17.30 cedis. The expected retail price range is from 18.12 to 20.02 cedis per litre.
COPEC also forecasts an increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas to 15.32 cedis per kilogram. According to the organisation's estimate, its price may range from 14.55 to 16.08 cedis per kilogram.

Quotes and the cedi exchange rate
COPEC explained the forecast by an increase in the global oil price from $89.30 to $103.07 per barrel. At the same time, according to the organisation, the Ghanaian cedi strengthened by 0.29% against the US dollar: the average interbank exchange rate changed from 11.5166 to 11.4830 cedis per dollar.
According to COPEC's calculations, the FOB price of petrol rose by 10.08%, from $1,136.50 to $1,251.07 per tonne. For diesel, this indicator increased by 12.33%, from $1,250.50 to $1,404.73 per tonne, and for liquefied gas, by 16.45%, from $611.75 to $712.43 per tonne.
COPEC proposals
The chamber called on the government to continue subsidy support after the first September pricing period: to provide petrol consumers with price relief of 1 cedi per litre and maintain support of 2 cedis per litre for diesel. The organisation also urged fuel market operators to reduce part of their own margins and the authorities to accelerate the expansion of the Tema Oil Refinery from 45,000 to 100,000 barrels of processing per day.
