Nigeria begins restoring four damaged transmission line towers
Nigeria’s Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun restoring four towers on the 132 kV Afam/IPP/Elelenwo double-circuit transmission line in Rivers State. The work concerns towers T50, T51, T52 and T53, which the company said were damaged as a result of vandalism.
Damage discovered in August
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, TCN workers discovered the damaged towers on August 6. A subsequent inspection, according to the company, found that critical bracing components had been removed from the structures. This compromised the structural integrity of all four towers.
After the damage was discovered, TCN engaged a contractor to carry out on-site repairs. On Tuesday, TCN’s Port Harcourt regional unit held an official site handover ceremony, marking the start of restoration work.

Appeal to communities
Azu Laki, the Head of Lines for the Port Harcourt Transmission Region, who represented TCN management, called on Elelenwo residents, traditional rulers and the local government chairman to help the company combat vandalism.
According to him, the damage to the towers poses a risk to reliable power transmission through this corridor. TCN appealed to residents of Elelenwo and nearby communities to support the repair work and remain vigilant against vandalism near power grid facilities. The company stressed that community cooperation is important for protecting the restored infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity transmission.
