Ukrainian nuclear power plants withstood the extreme heat without reducing output

Ukrainian nuclear power plants withstood the extreme heat without reducing output

Ukrainian nuclear power plants continue to operate normally despite abnormally high temperatures.

The output of the operating power units has not been reduced due to the heat.

The cooling systems of Ukrainian reactors can withstand high temperatures, allowing nuclear power plants to generate electricity steadily even during periods of extreme heat.

The stable operation of nuclear power plants remains one of the factors helping Ukraine avoid power outages during the summer peak demand period. At the same time, in a number of European countries, the heat and low water levels in reservoirs have already forced restrictions on the operation of nuclear power plants.

As a reminder, Russian troops are effectively using the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar as a military base. On July 13, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) warned of the danger posed by stationing troops and equipment on the territory of a nuclear facility.

In addition, intelligence reported a severe staff shortage at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. According to the agency, employees are being forced to sign contracts with Rosatom, and specialists brought in from Russia lack the necessary qualifications to fully maintain the plant. Specifically, before the war, approximately 11,000 people worked at the plant; currently, there are about 7,500, including 500 employees of an outsourcing company that does not have a license to perform work at the plant.
