Peter Thiel's fund has acquired a stake in the Argentine company Vista Energy
Thiel Macro LLC, a hedge fund linked to American tech billionaire Peter Thiel, reported holding nearly 1.2 million shares of the Argentine energy company Vista Energy SAB. At the end of the second quarter, this stake was valued at approximately $76 million, according to the Buenos Aires Times.
According to a filing with the U.S. regulator, as of June 30, the value of the fund’s investment in Vista was second only to its stake in Amazon.com Inc. in its portfolio. Vista was the only non-U.S. company among Thiel Macro LLC’s declared assets.
Vista Energy, founded in 2017 by Miguel Galuccio, has become Argentina’s largest oil exporter. The company operates in the Vaca Muerta shale basin and produces the equivalent of about 160,000 barrels of oil and gas per day. According to the publication, 70% of its production is exported.
